About the Artist

Tracy Haines - Biography

"...captivated by the beauty of nature."

Born in New York City,  raised in Omaha , Nebraska, Tracy now lives in Littleton, Colorado.

She paints regularly, both outside on location ( plein air) and in the studio. Although not formally trained in fine art , she has taken a number of classes at the Art Students League in Denver, and participated in various workshops. Her work has been exhibited in local galleries and numerous shows. Colorful landscapes in pastel , oil and acrylic are Tracy’s forte, although she works in other mediums and subject matter from time to time.

In addition to painting, Tracy is back at work part-time as a Dermatologist, after  many years off raising her three children. "Dermatology is very visual; it's the perfect field for an artist. Using both sides of the brain helps keep me young and excited about life."

A portion of sales from paintings go to the support of several ministries. Her favorite is Ray Comfort's  evangelistic Living Waters Ministry.

Artist Statement

My more contemporary works are created intuitively, but are loosely based on a still life set up.  I hope to convey to the viewer the joy and happiness I feel in creating these works, which to me, are a celebration of the richness of life.  The process begins with a large brush or knife and several acrylic colors to establish a robust underpainting. As this layer dries an exciting texture is established using various other media compatible with acrylics and always with archival concerns in mind. The early stages of the process are fast moving, fun and largely engage the more carefree right side of the brain.  After this, I slow down a bit, reign things in and switch to more analytic thinking.  Off goes the high energy, dance music and on comes Bach, or some other classical piece conducive to this part of the painting. Here, compositional elements, drawing and values are carefully considered. Once I am satisfied the elements of strong design are in place, I go full force into intuitive painting again, letting the piece itself dictate any further changes needed. There is often a push-pull kind of dance towards the end, where areas may be excavated or added to, before the piece announces itself done.

Viewers often remark on my use of color, and of the joy they feel viewing these works, which thrill me as a painter.
As Johann Sebastian Bach said, “The only purpose for music and art should be the Glory of God and the re-creation of the human spirit.” Art can feel like a selfish endeavor at times, but I try to paint with the viewer in mind, and hope to elevate the human spirit with my work.
